Drawing inspiration from John Oswald and his iconic Plunderphonics Sound Collage, Good Vibrations repurposes lyrics from a range of musical genres to create a new message. While capturing the vibrations with a substance known as Oobleck, the non-Newtonian fluid is placed on top of the speaker to show the harsh differences between musical styles as found in the liquid. The inspiration comes from a look at my personal music library and the jarringly different genres that I find myself listening to on a daily basis. This project blends different vocal styles from genres such as alternative, disco, hip-hop, rock, metal, and worship, and aims to repurpose the meanings behind what the author initially intended.
