Finding Comfort Under the Sky is a conversation between past and present that attempts to reconcile the cultural dualities between Philippines and Canada. For me, the past is present in the objects I brought from Cebu, Philippines, such as an old passport photo, an heirloom rosary, and a blue Camisa de Chino. My personal history and identity are negotiated through my photographs of these objects. I activate them in my present and place, like so many time capsules that will mend past wounds and allow me to forge a sense of syncretic identity.
